I am the son of not one, but two Psychoanalysts. I grew up in and around the field of therapy and am a big advocate of it. Feeling great takes work. It’s a choice. I grew up understanding the value of physical and emotional well-being and it’s what I practice to this day. It’s a way of life.
As an adult I have had two overlapping careers; personal trainer and now psychotherapist. I believe my clinical experience in both areas is quite extensive because I made the decision that it would be so. One area is in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and I usually work with families to teach them how to deal with a loved one who is struggling. Having worked in Psychiatric and Substance Abuse facilities I help families to intervene in complex situations when a loved ones health is compromised or out of control.
My creative passions are serious ones and revolve around what I preach as a shrink. Mind, body and spirit. It is also important we do not live with regret. Goals are so important, and I make sure I have mine so I grow personally AND professionally.
Aside from co-authoring a Parenting book with my mother, entitled You Can Say NO and Your Child Will Still Love You, I have performed standup comedy and music professionally. In 2015, I appeared on TV several times discussing a variety of mental health issues. At the age of 48 I moved back to NYC and began acting and have appeared on multiple TV series and a few award-winning films. I am frequently called upon for my clinical expertise for TV, websites and crime podcasts. This is part of why I can teach others about how to be truly fulfilled.
As a therapist, coach and/or trainer I take a very proactive, motivational approach with clients, and believe people need to challenge their fears actively. Talk can be cheap, action tends to lead to greater heights. It’s the approach I take on personally.
Generally, I find when we examine our Physical, Intellectual, Social, Emotional and Spiritual lives, we can focus our efforts so we are happier more productive and fulfilled.
It’s imperative to be goal oriented in life. We need to certainly examine WHY we don’t do things or WHY we repeat negative patterns. And then we need to make a decision to change. That’s what it’s all about. Insight into Action. This is how I challenge myself and ultimately it leads me to greater and more successes despite challenges I may, and have faced throughout.
